Update early February 2026: Mariamou has a congenital heart defect, which was only recently diagnosed. Unfortunately, in Cameroon and other sub-Saharan countries, it is often the case that a correct diagnosis is made very late. Fortunately, Mariamou had the support of her extended family and friends and was able to consult a specialist in Ngaoundere (northern Cameroon), who diagnosed a large atrial septal defect and strongly recommended surgical correction.

Mariamou is married and has five children. She and her husband run a small farm. The income allows them to provide well for themselves and their children. However, the cost of open-heart surgery is beyond their financial means. Mariamou and her family are overjoyed that the mi-do community of donors is making this urgently needed operation possible and express their heartfelt gratitude!
