Final Report:
It is done! In February 2015 Dr. Charles Mvondo and his team have corrected the ventricular septal defect that made Karl's life so difficult. This photograph was taken specially for the MI-DO donors - it is Karl's only way to salute and thank all the generous people who have helped him! Since no complications developed after the operation, Karl was released and is now with his mother in Yaoundè.
Karl's mother sends her salutations and thanks to the community of MI-DO donors and to the Friends of Franciscan Mission Outreach who have supported her and her son in such a wonderful way. This support has totally changed her life and that of her son!
Had Karl Adrien been born somewher else, for example in Europe or the US, his heart defect would have been diagnosed before his birth and surgically corrected right after it.
But, Karl Adrien was born in Cameroon, wher such opportunities simply do not exist. It is only recently that his chronic spiking fever and coughing could finally be explained. Fortunately, Karl Adrien was sent by the Yaoundè Central Hospital for more detailed testing at the Shisong Cardiac Centre, where Dr. Jean-Claude Ambassa diagnosed an operable artrial septal defect.
Karl Adrien's mother is a single mother and is not capable to bear the cost of the operation and stay at the Centre. She has committed to raise 400.000frs (€ 610,00) which is nearly the average annual salary!
