In the Western world, a congenital heart defect would be detected before birth. In sub-Saharan Africa, however, it often takes a very long time to make an accurate diagnosis. There are many reasons for this – one of them is certainly the lack of specialised facilities. Abigail was already eight months old when two congenital heart defects were diagnosed at the Cardiac Centre of the Tertiary Sisters of St. Francis. These require urgent surgery, and fortunately Abigail has now been given an operation date.

Abigail's family lives in modest circumstances. Her father provides for the family with his small farm. Since Abigail's birth and illness, her mother has been at home looking after her two children. They should not have to bear the financial burden of heart surgery, so we are asking for your valued support!
